Believe it or not, this is a woman's bathing suit from the early 1900's. Women during this time period typically wore knee-length wool dresses over bloomers, black stockings, and lace up bathing shoes. And before you ask how they didn't drown swimming in all those clothes, know that women didn't typically "swim". Rather they would jump over the waves holding on to ropes tied to the shoreline. Fun, right?
