"Sent From Heaven"

4 1/4"x 5 1/2"
Oil on paper
$65

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

On Saturday, my small group went to help out at the Frazee Center here in Greenville. The Frazee Center is a free after school and summer program for children in downtown Greenville. This is one of the windows in the old, broken-down church building. If you would like to volunteer your time at the Frazee Center, visit their website at www.frazeecenter.com. Merry Christmas!

"Bathed in Green"

10"x14"
Oil on Masonite
$150

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

I keep all my brushes, towels, and other painting supplies on the window ledge next to my easel. The early evening light hitting those objects, as well as the tree right outside the studio window inspired this piece.

"Ivy"

20"x 24"
Oil on Canvas
$220

This is another lare piece I did for an upcoming exhibit. My favorite part of this piece is the large mass of ivy engulfing this window. My fear in starting this one was that I would have to paint a bunch of ivy leaves individually to really get the effect. I am very happy with how this one turned out!

"Golden View"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

It is interesting to me how my attitude towards a piece changes over the course of creating it. I never like my paintings until I am close to finishing them. I think it is because when I first start, all I see is what else needs to be done, and the things that need to be changed of adjusted. This piece was no exception. But, over a period of just a few hours, I can go from really hating to really loving a piece.

"Stopping for the View"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

In the way up the Tybee Island lighthouse, I stopped on each floor to take pictures of the various windows. We were there just as the sun was going down, so the windows were flooded with beautiful golden light. I plan to do a few more of these.

"Through the Dark"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

As promised, here is the newest piece. The thing that I like about painting these windows is the high contrast between the light coming in and the deep darkness around them. I also want to get in as much color into the dark areas as I can.

"Boarded Up"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

Another window study. I am not quite as drawn to this one as the one from last night. I think it is because this one doesn't have the large areas of dark to contrast with the beams of light peaking through the boards. I am planning on using these smaller window pieces as studies for a larger series. More on that to come.

"Blue Window"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

I don't know what my facination with windows is recently. I think it is the contrasts in lighting that they create. I am also enjoying playing around with colors more- trying to see how many different colors I can use to render an object, while still having it clearly read what the object is. These old buildings and grainy photographs have proven to be great subjects for that kind of experimentation.

"From Above"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

This is another one from the photoshoot at the chapel in the middle of nowhere. This place had the most beautiful windows. Many of them were boarded up, but the ones that weren't let in these beautiful shafts of light. In this one, I really worked to achieve the contrast of the bright sun streaming into the dark space, and the way the camera blows out those areas of light when photographed. I also had a lot of fun playing with the various colors within the shaddows.

"Breaking Out"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

I love this piece. This was from another photo I took at our shoot at that old house. I just love the colors and the loosness of it, but it still reads clearly what it is.

"Shining Through"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

I was on a photo shoot for work at the begining of last week, and one of our locations was this old run-down chapel out in the middle of nowhere. It was such an amazing location, and I spent much of the time snapping pictures on my cell phone to paint later. On this one I attempted to capture the diffused light coming through the old broken window panes. I will explore this further in some later paintings.

"Outside Looking In"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

I apologize for the lack of posts last week. Most of the week was spent framing and hanging pieces for the UVA show opening on Friday. A huge thanks to all of you who came out to the opening. It was a huge success. I did manage to do this piece in the midst of all the chaos last week. This is another one from my friend's trip to Italy.

"Into the Hills"

6" x 6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

A huge thanks to my friend Virginia for sending me some of her pics from Italy. This one is from a piece of one of those photos. I like the feeling of being inside a cool, dark, cozy room, but looking out onto and amazingly breath-taking scene. On the landscape portion of this piece, I really kept myself from getting too caught up in the details of the scene, and really tried to just capture the colors and the feeling of the beautiful, wide-open space.

This is the last of the pear paintings- at least for this week. I loved the idea of having the reflections in the glass being part of the focus.

"On the Ledge"

6" x 6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

I got the idea for this piece late Saturday night. While I have been trying to focus more on it recently, I realize how often the background of my pieces tends to be somewhat of an afterthought. On this one, I wanted the pears to still be the central focus, but I wanted their environment to play an important part. This is the window ledge behind where I usually set up my still lifes.
