A cold kept me home much of last week, but I was able to get in a bit of painting time. I have loved revisiting these shells again.

I decided to revisit this shell from a different angle. I really love how the red shadow pushes the blue of the shell forward.

Exactly two years ago today, I created my first daily painting of this same shell, which I happened to pull out of a shoe box a few days ago. Since that first painting, I have created some 380 paintings, had close to 20 shows, moved my studio out of my home and into my downtown space, launched my website, and quit my full time job to focus all my time on painting. I have to say it has been a heck of a couple of years!

Be sure to mark your calenders for my anniversary show, Two:Another Year of Painting, on Feb. 20 at the Art & Light Gallery in West Greenville. Music will be provided by Travelers Rest resident, Stephanie Fagan, and you will have the chance to win your very own Emily Clarke original! It promises to be a great night.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported me over the past two years. And now, on to year three!

Oil on Paper
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

Today is the one year anniversary of my first daily painting! This piece is the painting I created exactly one year ago today. I didn't do much preperation for this piece- I didn't even gesso the piece of paper it is on. But the important thing that day was that I started something, and I haven't been able to stop. Over the past year, I have created just short of 200 paintings! A huge thanks to those of you who have supported me, given me comments and suggestions for pieces, and have purchased my work. I couldn't have done it without your help. Now, on to year two...

These are a couple more of my pile of shells. I love the variety of shapes and colors, and how every one is different. It is amazing to me that something so small, that spends much of its existence under the water or buried in the sand has such beauty. These are the things that make me appreciate the small things around us everyday.

I spent New Year's at the Isle of Palms with several friends, and we took several walks on the beach and collected shells. While my friend Sara collected nicely formed shells to make jewelry, I picked up anything twisted and broken and strangely colored. This pile of odd forms has been a great source of inspiration for these daily paintings, as each one is completely new and different.
