"Cutting Through"

4 1/4"x 5 1/2"
Oil on Mat board
$65

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

This is a pair of sewing scissors from my grandmother's sewing basket. They are a bit of an unusual shape, and I loved painting the light playing off of the different surfaces.

"Across the Years"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

This is a close up of the foot of my great-grandmother's sewing machine. I did this piece as a companion to the painting I did of the foot of my own sewing machine, which also belonged to my mother. I love that through the different generations, this connection in my family, a love of sewing, has remained.

"Sewing History"

Oil on Mat board

This was my Great Grandmother's sewing machine. The machine itself is a beautiful work of art, with all its intricate details and complicated mechanism.

"In Her Hands"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

This is another piece from my sewing series, which will be on display at the Art & Light gallery this Friday night and Saturday afternoon. I like how focused this woman is on her task, and the sepia tones seem to give it such a warm, comfortable look.

"Shears"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

In case you are wondering, this one is of the handle of a pair of scissors. I just love how you can put so many colors into a reflective object and still have it read as silver.

"Straight Stitch"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

I discovered a site recently that had pictures of various old sewing machines. I thought the detail on this one was gorgeous. This piece was actually fairly difficult to paint. The trouble was trying to clearly show the raised patterns in the silver, while still maintaining the strong reflections and shadows. After much trial and error, I think the final product turned out well.

I will be in Florida the rest of this week, but will have many new pieces to post next week!

"Stitches"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

A continuation of the recent theme. I focused mainly on the contrast of light and dark in this one. It is simple, but I think it is still striking in its boldness.

"By the Pattern"

6"x6"
Oil on Mat board
SOLD

This is actually my sewing machine. It is an old Singer machine that was my mom's. I wanted to push the colors a little in this one. It is easy to simply try to reproduce the exact color of an object. But, when you really look at something, there are so many more colors present- highlights are full of blues, pinks and yellows; Shadows contain greens and reds. We only need to look a little harder.

"Hand Made"

6"x 6"
Oil on Masonite
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

One of my other favorite things to do, especially recently, is to sew. My mom taught me how, and actually gave me her old sewing machine. For me, there is something exciting about wearing something that I have created myself, so that my clothes are even more an expression of who I am. I think it is the same excitement I get from creating a piece of art- that I have created something out of myself, that others can now see.

My mom has a great collection of old spools of thread. This is just one of them...probably with more to come!
