An Adventure Close to Home

So, I live in Greenville, SC, and have for a number of years now. But I don't venture up to Asheville often, which is crazy considering it is less than an hour away and I have family who live there. So, today I took a somewhat spur of the moment trip up to the mountain city. My main goal in going was to  visit a gallery I have been considering submitting my work to, and to see my baby sister, who lives close by.

My secondary reason was to visit The Chocolate Lounge. Yes, it is everything you imagine it to be; comfortable chairs in a cozy room, intoxicating smells, chocolate flavored with ginger or lavender or coconut, brought to you in wine glasses.

After that I came home to nurse a cold that has been creeping up on me since Monday. Tomorrow will once again be just a typical day. Paper dolls will be made, my first class of the fall is starting up, but tonight, I may just dream about chocolate...

Beginning today, you can see these two pieces on display as part of the "Art in the Market" Show at the Whole Foods on Woodruff Rd. here in Greenville. The show is put on by Upstate Visual Arts, and features food themed art from artists all over the upstate. These two pieces were a chance for me to keep eating chocolate until I found the perfect "models."

These two pieces are not currently for sale, because they are going to be a part of the "Art in the Market" show at the Whole Foods Market on Woodruff Rd. here in Greenville, SC. The show is sponsored by Upstate Visual Arts, and features food themed art by artists all over the upstate. The first rotation is currently on display. Look for these two pieces in the next rotation beginning in May.

Monday nights are typically pretty hectic, and I often don't start painting until 10pm. So, last night I had my first "30 minute Monday!" In an effort not to paint until 2am, I decided that on Mondays, I will complete a painting in 30 minutes. To make sure that I stick to the time limit, I set a kitchen timer to go off at the 30 minute mark. These will be a fun way to loosen up some of my paintings as well. The fortune from this cookie: "You will be unusually successful in an entertainment career."

My little sister is visiting this weekend, so I haven't had much time to paint. I did find time to draw these fortune cookies from our dinner last night. The fortune is "An unexpected visitor will bring you good blessings."
