Sometimes, as hard as I try, I just can't get a piece to work out. This is what last night's piece looked like after I wiped the whole thing off and went to bed! But, through every failure you learn something new, and it brings you that much closer to a successful piece.

When that happens to me, I stick it aside and paint over it later, harnessing the unresolved image beneath to add texture and subtlety where intentionally revealed (sgraffito, etc).
Love that idea! Several of these pieces have a failed image underneath, but in none have I let that image add to the final piece. Thanks.
