A huge thanks to all of you who made it out to Artisphere this past weekend. It was a wonderful event with record crowds, amazing artists and performers, and gorgeous weather. I spent several lovely days sitting outside the studio, painting and talking with people.

If you came by and saw me working, here is the final product. This is from one of my favorite photos, and now it is one of my favorite paintings. The woman in the middle is my grandmother, and the others are two of her best friends from high school/college. Someone has labeled the photo with the caption "3 Musketeers." I think their hair and clothes are gorgeous, and I love the old car in the background.

I did the whole piece with a fairly large paintbrush, so it has a very loose quality to it, and I worked hard to capture the bright sunlight and deep shade.

And, many of my painting-minis will be added to my Etsy shop in the next day or so, so stay tuned.

Longing for the time

Sometimes when I am creating a piece, I am able to communicate so much more than what was in the original reference image. This is one of the images from my Oil and Rouge photo shoot last year. I love her look of longing, like she is deep in thought, remembering some lost love. This is another 6"x 6" painting-mini, available this weekend during Artisphere for only $55. The sides are 1" thick and painted blue.

Redeemed

Much of the past few days has been spent getting ready for Artisphere, happening this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in downtown Greenville. While we are not officially a part of Artisphere, all the artists of Art Crossing will be open all weekend, doing demonstrations and selling artwork. So, once you've browsed all the artists' tents up on Main St., come down the stairs and see us.

I did manage to squeeze in this little piece over the weekend. She makes me think of the old movie leading ladies, who, while beautiful and charming, have some dark and mysterious past that they are trying to escape.

This and my other painting-minis will be available for sale this weekend. 4"x 4" painting-minis are only $40, and 6"x 6" painting-minis, like this one, are only $55. All these pieces are painted on wood panel, and the sides are 1" thick and painted a complementary color. Come check them out, plus all the other great pieces I have in the studio.

A special request

You may remember this piece I posted a few months ago:

A gentleman came in to the studio recently and fell in love with the piece because it reminded him of when he and his wife went to the Drive-in. Only trouble was, there is no Drive-in in the painting. He asked if I would be willing to put in a few Drive-in details, which of course I was happy to do. The resulting product was this:

Bowling anyone?

The AAF Greenvile is having an event called the Tiki bowl, and they asked for local artists to decorate bowling pins to be auctioned off. I had so much fun doing the bust for Tatas on Trade that I decided a bowling pin would be fun. Sadly I kept putting it off for so long, that I didn't leave myself much time to paint it! Here is the almost finished product. True to my style, I went searching for vintage bowling images, and styled the piece after vintage bowling shirts. I have no idea what the other offerings to the auction will be, but I am pleased with mine.

I have no idea who this woman is, but I love her proud, confident look, like she is looking ahead towards some goal she is determined to achieve. Although, that may just be my modern interpretation of a fairly classic image.

Despite the interment rain, it has been a really great day today. My kind and giving father made a bunch of little frames for me, so I now have a stack of little panels waiting to be painted. There has been a surprising number of people stopping in the studio today, considering it is a rainy Tuesday. And, I had the pleasure of meeting in person one of my patrons who I had only ever spoken to over email. Not bad for one day.

My good kind mother gave me her camera to use as a replacement to my broken on, so here is one of the pieces I did at the end of last week. I am starting to like these earlier portraits, if only for the beautiful hair and clothes.

Doing Without

I really like the painting I did today, but my camera finally gave out completely, not even giving me a blurry pink image to work with. I will have a replacement on Monday, but until then I will keep working away.
