"The Hands that Created"

14"x18"
Oil on Masonite
$200

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

While the past few pieces have been of my hands, this one is of my younger sister's hands. And, they are over one of the quilts she made. She is a very talented quiltmaker, and will have her own site up and running soon. I will make an announcement when it launches. In the meantime, just contact me if you want more information about her quilts.

"Gazing Into the Whitness"

Oil on Masonite
$200

If you were ever to watch me paint, this is the posture that you would see most often- complete with baggy, paint covered jeans and bare feet. I was going to include the easel in this piece, but as I completed the figure, it was almost as if I had stepped into the world of the canvas, rather than being outside of it. For me, it is not so much the fear of putting the first marks on a blank canvas (the beauty of paint being that you can alway paint over it), but just having this whole world of your own to create, and needing to decide what should go in it.

"Bathed in Green"

10"x14"
Oil on Masonite
$150

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

I keep all my brushes, towels, and other painting supplies on the window ledge next to my easel. The early evening light hitting those objects, as well as the tree right outside the studio window inspired this piece.

"Folded in Prayer"

6"x6"
Oil on Masonite
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

This piece is a continuation of last night's theme. I like these masses of various color that seem to give so much volume to the hands. I also had fun painting the ring my sister bought for me in Peru.

"Grasping Hands"

14"x 18"
Oil on Masonite
$200

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

When I was in college, I loved drawing hands. To me, there is something facinating about the range of expression possible in a pair of hands. While my style now is much different than it was in college, I am always able to see the influence of those earlier works on my current pieces.

"Treasure Among Weeds: A Portrait of the Artist"

16"x16"
Oil and Paper on Canvas

This piece was one of those that came together so easily and quickly that it shocked even me. I was especially happy with the ease of this one because it is the last piece for my show opening in June. More details to come on that very soon! And, yes, this one is a portrait of me as a little girl.

"On the Edge of a Story"

16"x16"
Oil and Paper on Canvas

I wish you could get a feel for the texture of these pieces. This one has much more dimension in it than some of the previous works. I love the smallness and simplicity of the figures in this more complicated background.

Hands on Greenville Day

Saturday was Hands on Greenville day, and my office sent a team to the Open Bible Church downtown to do some renovations. I was fortunate to be able to work on a mural for them. I guess you can say this was my daily painting for the day! A huge thanks to the other members of my team. You guys are the best!

"Quack Attack"

6"x6"
Oil on Masonite
SOLD

One of my favorite things to have happened in Greenville so far occurred on Saturday- the Kenducky Derby. Just imagine hundreds of rubber ducks racing down the Reedy River falls! And, yes, they were all wearing sunglasses...

My mom sent me this picture of an old Mill wheel down in Georgia. I love all the plants that have grown up around it due to years of unuse.

16"x 16"
Oil and Paper on Canvas

In addition to the larger pieces for my June show, I have begun working on several mid-size pieces as well. I am really trying to experiment with these, and that has included playing with the background. For this piece, I covered the canvas with pages from children's stories. I loved the innocence of eating an ice cream (and licking it off your arm) in conjunction with the whimsy of well known fairy tales.

Hello friends! An injured thumb has slowed up my painting a bit (and my typing- it has taken a while to write this sentence!) But, I am very excited about the direction my new pieces are going. Hope you will stay tuned, and I will have more details about my next show as the date approaches.

"In the Arms of a Mother"

6"x 6"
Graphite on Mat board
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

This is just such a sweet, tender moment. I don't think it reads as well on the computer, but there is quite a bit of texture in that deep black background. I left the border on this one so you could see my fingerprint smudges and where I scribbled down the title so that I wouldn't forget it by the time I finished.

"To Be So Innocent"

6"x 6"
Graphite on Mat board
$80

To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.

I haven't really sat and drawn much recently, but I spent much of the weekend working on a drawing for a friend and really enjoyed it. That prompted me to do this piece. This was done from a very tiny picture of my mom as a little girl. I love the massive size of the bed as compared to her. I also love the fact that she is about the same size as the teddy bear!

Hello friends! I have been spending quite a lot of time working on some large pieces for a show in June. I am extremly excited about them, but am going to hold off on posting them. Please excuse my sporadic posting over the next few months. Just know that I am still painting! In the meantime, here is a comissioned piece that I have been working on. If you would like to comission a specific piece, just send me an email with a photo, and we can discuss size and pricing options. Thanks for sticking around!

The new view

I am getting started on a new set of large paintings for a show in June. I spent much of the weekend constructing frames for the canvases. There is so much potential in that large expanse of white! I also wanted to take this opportunity to give you a view of the new studio. Out those windows is a great view of Main St. Greenville.
