A Trio of Hats
36"x 40"
Oil and acrylic on Canvas
$800
Although I never really know what they are going to look like at the end, when I first look at a photo I have a general idea of what kind of painting I want to make. For some reason, this painting needed to be really large and to have a bright blue background. Maybe it is because the color and size seem in contrast to the fairly stiff postures and dark dress. I love the huge hats on the two women, although I am sure their whole outfit was uncomfortable to wear. The man in his black suit is my great-grandfather in his younger days.
This is another piece that looks much different in person than it does on the computer, and I am still debating whether the background is done, but I love it too much not to go ahead and share!

Facebook winner
Do you remember a while back when I did a giveaway on my Facebook page once I reached 500 fans? Well, Letizia won, and she had me paint this piece of her parents on their wedding day. Want to win your own free commission piece? Click over to my page and "like" Emily Clarke Studio, and tell your friends to do the same. That's easy enough.

Easy as Riding a Bike
18"x 26"
Oil on Canvas
$425
To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.
You know how, when you are a kid, bikes seem really difficult to draw? I remember thinking when I was younger that if someone could draw bikes or horses they were good. I don't think my attitude has changed much as an adult. When I was starting to work on this piece, my first thought was, "that bike is going to be the hard part." Hopefully, having finished it and it not being that difficult will change my thinking.
This is another beautiful photo of my grandmother. I am judging it is fall by her long sleeves and the few leaves clinging to the tree in the background. I wish I could ask her if she still had that hat, and about who wrote "some dish" on the back of the photo.

All of you Greenville swing dancers will recognize this couple. Paul provided the music for my vintage show last October, and we worked out this piece as a trade. Thanks Paul and Ansley for your help, and for such a fun piece to paint!

3 Musketeers
26"x 38"
Oil on Canvas
$775
To purchase, email me with the title in the subject line.
A huge thanks to all of you who made it out to Artisphere this past weekend. It was a wonderful event with record crowds, amazing artists and performers, and gorgeous weather. I spent several lovely days sitting outside the studio, painting and talking with people.
If you came by and saw me working, here is the final product. This is from one of my favorite photos, and now it is one of my favorite paintings. The woman in the middle is my grandmother, and the others are two of her best friends from high school/college. Someone has labeled the photo with the caption "3 Musketeers." I think their hair and clothes are gorgeous, and I love the old car in the background.
I did the whole piece with a fairly large paintbrush, so it has a very loose quality to it, and I worked hard to capture the bright sunlight and deep shade.
And, many of my painting-minis will be added to my Etsy shop in the next day or so, so stay tuned.
Alright, now for a break...
